Growing up in South Korea, Hyungzee was not your typical playing-with-dolls little girl. She was fascinated with machines from a very young age—and spent much of her time looking over the shoulder of her father, who was an industrial engineer. After getting her very own degree in the subject, she went on to get a master’s in metalcraft, setting her up to be one heck of a geometric, industrial-inspired jeweler. Her first show in Seoul featured electronic components, reimagined into insanely awesome accessories—if that’s not hardcore, we’re not quite sure what is. Since then she’s been capturing the minimal, functional beauty of the machine and turning it into delicate jewelry that is accessible for the everyday. A beautiful ghost in the machine? We’re sold.
