Val believes in doing things the old fashioned way, and one peek outside her shop can confirm it all. Her printshop is in a barn, surrounded by farm animals and a lush garden, and inside, she uses traditional techniques to create her artwork. The illustrated pieces are hand-carved from wood blocks, and the type is hand-set with antique wood letters, to create messages and designs in layers on her antique press. The process is very manual—every design and every layer of color is printed one pass at a time, one sheet of paper at a time, which means a whole lotta time (and love) goes into each finished piece.
