The method behind the making of Broken Plates jewelry was destined to be a smash. Founder and visionary Gillian blows glass plates by hand, then breaks them up and fashions them into wearable glass art. Each unique piece begins with an illustration, often organic shapes and abstract florals, before it is sandblasted onto a handblown plate in Gillian’s studio. The pieces are then cut into their unique shapes by hand or digitally controlled water stream for more precision, polished and fashioned into their final form—dimensional cuffs, pendants and earrings. Fusing many different methods of glassmaking, Gillian’s creations shatter all conventions.
