You know what sounds like a perfect day? A relaxing day spent in majestic Montana, equipped with a sketchbook, a good pencil that writes, some tea, a little cheese, and a furry friend nearby. This is the design-vironment Mia of Cicada gets in to create her sturdy, gorgeous leather bags and wallets. She fell in love with leather during a multi-media design class -- it was the way the leather smelt and felt that really drew her to the process. Working by hand (never with machines!) she creates each hole with a traditional awl and thread using the saddle stitch method. For those of us unfamiliar with the leather-working nomenclature: that basically means she does things slow, and with care... creating a much more durable product.
