A maker since childhood and a designer by trade, Rhonda turned to letterpress as an art form that combines new digital technology with the feel of handmade. The letterpress process is an elaborate one, starting with illustration, type or photos that are transformed into printing plates. Rhonda and her Color Box Letterpress cohorts use newfangled plastic plates to create raised images with photosensitive material, to be used in their old fashioned presses to churn out prints one at a time, one color at a time. The process makes flat designs into three-dimensional pieces of art, a wonderful tactile experience made by hand, start to finish.
