Julia describes her personal objets d’art as “bold graphic block prints on sturdy, usable, handmade bags.” And her description is pretty spot-on. She did, however, forget to mention “timeless.” Everything about her creations have been proven to stand the test of time from the ancient block print method she employs to the hearty materials she sources including cotton canvas, denim and supple leather. To make a new pattern she will sketch out the design, carve it into a new block, and then use that freshly carved block to print the material. In the end, the whole hand-pressed block printing process is less consistent than screen or digital printing. But that’s what gives each print its one-of- a-kind natural variation.
