Karla does for a living what some of us dreamed up doing as grown ups: she draws, doodles and paints. She creates repeating patterns for clients and companies to print on home decorating textiles and wallpaper, and the influences from her day-to-day work are clear in her personal art. The motifs in her playing cards and prints are neatly, but playfully arranged, composed to catch the eye with bright or soothing color combinations, designed to look great on walls and complement décor. Though all of her artwork is digitally printed, each piece starts on paper with pencil and paint and is finished on the computer with tablet and stylus, for a look that’s hand drawn but polished.
