Mona believes that concrete doesn’t have to be straight-laced or boring. Considering it’s the primary material in her creations, she takes the industrial stuff and injects it with fun. What would otherwise be minimalist, she transforms into whimsical and even colorful with stamps, dyes and wood trimmings. The grey stuff is more serious than backing up a truck and pouring it in. Mona mixes every batch, grinds, polishes and seals the concrete surfaces, all by hand. The finished trivets, coasters, planters and cheeseboards are so smooth they’re often mistaken for cut stone, or sculpted ceramics, which speaks volumes about how velvety they turn out. Plus, as they’re made with a material best known for sturdy, foundational uses, it’s clear every one of Mona’s goods will last and last.
