Alejandra’s mother is from Guatemala and, though she grew up in California, the colorful world of the homeland always fascinated her. Particularly, hand-loomed Maya textiles. So she devised a business that would empower these craftspeople, using their original textiles to create eye-catching modern bags. Her partners go door to door in Guatemala, collecting the intricate weavings from traditional clothing—then they ship the goods back to her, where she puts them together with great respect for the original purpose of the fabric.
