A bartender by trade, George often found himself buying lots of fancy ingredients to create drinks at work—but he was growing tired of the return on his investment, so he started developing his own syrups right in his Brooklyn apartment. His pumpkin spice syrup (get in our drinks!) found its way onto a Bravo TV show—and his craft cocktail syrup venture suddenly grew legs. He approaches making a syrup as he would making a cocktail, starting with the best natural ingredients he can get his hands on then experimenting until he finds a uniquely perfect concoction. The name Poor Man is a translation of his mother’s maiden name, Poveromo, and all the labels feature his family members growing up in the Bronx back in the day. That way he’s giving a nod to the past while leading the cocktail makers of the future out onto the horizon.
