There seems to be no part of Douglas’s life that wasn’t part of his career destination as a carpenter/architect. As a young buck, he worked alongside his dad (a third generation carpenter himself) where he learned a love for design and construction early on. He furthered that passion with a formal education: an Architecture Degree at NYIT. Next on the timeline: becoming a bonafide architect in the state of New York, starting his own company and working on residential and commercial design. But beyond blueprints, getting back to building his own furnishings is what brings him back to that basic childlike love of carpentry at its finest. Douglas dreams, designs, and builds all of his pieces in his home workshop using mostly reclaimed materials (especially copper and driftwood). And it all comes back to one thing: as he puts it, the magic is in “creating something from nothing.”
