For anyone who’s had a significant other who starts out as a “project,” Josh Marten can relate. His pure forms are all about celebrating the beauty of natural elements, but are initially a little rough around the edges as raw cuts of steel and wood before they’re reborn as contemporary pieces of furniture. And Josh definitely has a “type.” You’ll see hints of mid-century modern style, Japanese architecture and the quiet restraint of Scandinavian design in his work. As a matter of fact, Stål Timber is Norwegian for “steel and wood.” And the craftsmanship quite literally lives up to its skandi moniker. Handcrafted with both traditional and modern tools, Josh’s minimalist designs go from rugged to refined with a lot of love. Each one is definitely a keeper.
