Along with knowing the bus routes down to the minute and competitive parallel parking, neighborhoods are a point of pride for many a San Franciscan. When Katya and Shawn, who both had backgrounds in graphic design, started meeting to explore a new creative project, they got hung up on this idea of neighborhood identity. So they hit the street in each ‘hood, talking to residents about what animal would represent them. It could be one of historical significance—or just the area’s “animal spirit.” What came about was a gorgeously designed line of prints that resonates most with the residents. We like to think the animals are pretty happy about their work, too.
