Wonderful things happen when passion is married with education. Atoms get discovered. Symphonies are written. Inspiring quotes are spoken (which later become a barrage of pins on Pinterest). So when poet and bookmaker Richard Kegler decided to pitch in at a non-profit center that focused on his passion for printmaking and books, he knew that education was going to be a part of his role as head designer/printer/studio director. Western New York Book Art Center is work of many hands—members, volunteers, interns, staff—who promote the understanding of printing and book-related arts through education, creation and exhibition. All of the prints from this impassioned collective come from their fine but finite collection of wood and metal types, so creativity is often sparked by what’s on hand.
