Jacob and the rest of the Wine Punts team follow a pretty simple procedure for repurposing wine and liquor bottles into drinking glasses and serving ware. They simply cut the bottles in half, make use of the bottom and recycle the top. The impact they’re making in their community, however, is far from ordinary. Since beginning the project in 2006, they’ve saved tons (literally) of perfectly usable glass from getting thrown into landfills in their native Colorado Springs. Plus, they have a few more special features that set them apart from other up-cyclers’ inventions. For example, they use a fire polishing method to make smooth, polished rims that hold up extremely well to daily use compared to sanded rims so you can sip to your heart’s content.
